Weirdest Restaurants In the World

You might have heard of restaurants where diners suspend 50 metres up in the open air or watching schools of fish swim by 5 metres below sea-level. But have you heard of diners having meals in their bathing suit?

These are rather unique restaurants that are absolutely bizarre and out of this world, making them the most vivid memories of many travellers and food enthusiasts.

Tree House Restaurant (New Zealand)

“Let Your Fingers Do the Walking”

The Tree House Restaurant was created in New Zealand for a marketing campaign for Yellow Pages. In order to prove that something big can be completed using the Yellow, they built this restaurant 10 metres up a redwood tree. The whole construction took only 66 days!

Linking to the pod-shaped restaurant is a tree-top walkay to provide easy access. The Tree House Restaurant can seat 30 peas or can accommodate 50 peas standing. Okay, I couldn’t help it. I meant guests and not peas.:)

Dinner In the Sky Restaurant (Belgium)

Not For the Faint-Heated

Strap on and enjoy the ride! Or rather, your meals!:)

The Dinner In the Sky restaurant in Belgium is definitely not for anyone with Acrophobia(fear of heights). Once you’re strapped to your seats, the diner will be hoisted 50 metres up in the air, suspended by a crane.

According to Wikipedia, The Dinner In the Sky Restaurant is called one of the world’s ten most unusual restaurants by Forbes magazine. I myself call it one of world’s most exciting meals.

Hope they provide airsickness bags up there.

Ithaa Restaurant (Maldives)

World’s First Underwater Restaurant

Ithaa means pearl in Dhivehi.

It was designed in New Zealand and was supposed to be built on the beaches of Rangali. But due to limited resources, technical difficulties and quality control issues, the decision was then made to have the structure constructed in Singapore and then transport it back to Maldives. It is the world’s first underwater restaurant, mostly made from acrylic and secured five metres below sea level at the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island in Rangalifinolhu, Maldives.

The five-by-nine meter restaurant has a capacity of 14 people and offers a 270° panoramic view. Meals range in cost from US$120.00 (lunch for hotel guests on Full Board meal plan) to US$150.00 (dinner for hotel guests on Bed & Breakfast meal plan).

You can also spend the night at Ithaa at a rate of a whooping US$11,710 per night! If you do, Ithaa will be closed for the evening for you to stay overnight and I would love to hear your experience!

Clothing Optional Dinners (Manhattan)

Don’t Worry. The Windows Are Covered.

In Manhattan, a social event is created by nudist activist, John J. Ordover. Clothing Optional Dinners happens once a month where nudists or naturists gather in various restaurants around Manhattan. Once they enter the restaurant, they will disrobe to nothing, either in the restrooms or right in the dining room, and carry on as per normal. Each patron will have to bring a towel to sit on and their motto is “No hot soup”.

Such gatherings will definitely raise a few eyebrows, but the mention of actually attending such a gathering is sure to elicit the exact same look on everyone’s face. And really, the windows will be covered.
